Tips for
New Knitters

Learning to knit is about finding a rhythm and creating something with your own two hands. It might feel a little awkward at first, but that’s part of the process—and it gets easier with every stitch. At Apple Yarns, we’re here to make it feel simple, welcoming, and fun, with the right tools and support to help you get started.

Start with the Right Yarn
Choose light colors for your first project, it's easier to see your stitches.  Yarns that have multiple colors can inspire you to keep going.

Wool is considered the best yarn for learning to knit because it’s forgiving, versatile, and easy to work with. Not all wool is itchy, that's why our favorite yarn to learn with is Malabrigo Rios, super soft and colorful.

Knitting your first project is more than buying yarn—it’s the beginning of something you make with your own two hands, one stitch at a time. It’s not about perfection, but progress—small moments of learning, growing, and creating something that’s completely yours.

three Important Tips

Tension matters more than speed. . Slow down—you’ll thank yourself later. Knitting is not a race it's a time to relax and be in the moment.,

Count your stitches often. It’s way easier to fix mistakes early than 10 rows later. Stich markers are our friend.
Tip: place a stitch marker at every pattern repeat.

Mistakes are part of knitting and every knitter drops stitches. You don’t always have to rip back. Many mistakes can be fixed without undoing everything, a Handi-Tool is a must have for every project bag.
