Istex Léttlopi – 100% Icelandic Wool Yarn
There’s something almost mythic about knitting with Léttlopi. Spun from the fleece of Icelandic sheep — a breed that grows a unique double coat, with a durable outer layer and a soft, lofty inner fiber — this yarn carries centuries of tradition in every ball. It’s the classic choice for Lopapeysa, the iconic Icelandic colorwork sweater, and once you feel its rustic warmth and see the depth of its heathered colors, you’ll understand why knitters keep coming back to it.
Léttlopi comes pre-wound into balls and ready to knit straight from the shelf — no winding needed.

About the Yarn
Istex Lettlopi is an aran-weight woolen-spun yarn sourced from Icelandic sheep. Their double-coat results in two fiber types spun together to create the ultimate yarn known for exceptional warmth and durability. Note that some people find Lettlopi too scratchy to wear next to skin, so instead they opt to use it for outerwear garments.
The Benefits
Lettlopi comes in a wide variety of beautiful heathered colors already wound into balls and ready to use. The long staple length from Icelandic sheep coats result in a yarn that lasts a lifetime with minimal pilling, it can often be passed down across generations.

Always look forward to knitting with a new yarn.
I love this light worsted yarn for stranded knitting on outerwear garments. I have made many Lopapeysa sweaters and jackets. The yarn is not particularly soft, as the outer, hollow shafted, water repellent hairs of the sheep are also used, but softens with wear and is wonderfully light. (Tip! When blocking use shampoo and then hair conditioner to make it softer). I also use this yarn for Christmas stockings and knitted toy animals.
I’m loopy for Lopi
Stopped here with my family to find some yarn to make my grand daughter a Christmas stocking. The person helping me was excellent ! Knowledgeable and able to help me choose the right yarn and showed me some other products I’d never seen. Highly recommend this one
The staff was very helpful in helping me order a few more skeins to finish my project.
Icelandic yarns are rough and itchy but felt well. I would use them as trim or part of a pattern on a felted garment or hat.
