Beginner, Adventurous Beginner, or Intermediate Knitter—Which One Are You?
At Apple Yarns, we love helping knitters and crocheters at every level find the perfect yarn and project. One of the most common statements we hear is: I'm a beginner knitter/croheter and they're wearing a sweater. Here is how we define the different levels of crafting.
🧶 Beginner
Beginner knitters are just starting their fiber journey. You’re learning how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Your go-to projects are simple scarves, washcloths, or basic hats. You’re building confidence, learning how to read easy patterns, and figuring out yarn weights and needles.
🧶 Adventurous Beginner
Adventurous beginners are gaining confidence and ready to try new things. You’ve mastered knit and purl and want to explore knitting in the round, simple shaping (like increases and decreases), or small lace or cable sections. You might follow easy sweater or shawl patterns and are eager to grow your skills. Adventurous Beginners can also be brand new to knitting or crochet. This level is a lot about confidence.
🧶 Intermediate
Intermediate knitters feel at home with patterns, charts, and new techniques. You’ve likely knit sweaters, socks, or shawls and may have tried colorwork or lace. You know how to fix basic mistakes, choose the right yarn, and modify patterns to suit your style.
🧶 Advanced
Advanced knitters and crocheters are experts with both technique and creativity. You can read and adapt complex patterns, design your own projects, and confidently tackle intricate lace, Fair Isle, brioche, or textured knitting. You understand yarn fiber content, construction, and gauge—and you help inspire others in the knitting community.
No matter where you are—beginner, adventurous beginner, intermediate or advanced—Apple Yarns is here to support you with expert help, quality yarn, and a warm, welcoming fiber community. Shop online or visit us in Bellingham to find your next favorite project!
