Knitted Knockers are Wonderful, Free Breast Prosthetics for Women.
Knitted knockers are an alternative for women who have had mastectomies but have not had reconstructive surgery. Knitted knockers are a soft, comfortable, light alternative to traditional breast prosthetic. They can be worn with most regular bras and can be worn shortly after surgery. They are made by volunteers, and are adjustable for those going through reconstruction. Our purpose is to connect volunteer knitters with breast cancer survivors to offer FREE knitted knockers. http://www.knittedknockers.org/ to request a pair of knitted knockers or learn how to help provide them.
2013 Light the Night Auction
Whatcom Hospice Foundation's annual "Light the Night" Auction was held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the beautiful, brand new Silver Reef Event Center in Ferndale.
The event began with our popular silent auction. Later, guests were seated at tables of ten for dinner, the dessert dash and the live auction program. The live auction featured private parties, jewelry, trips, fine wine and much more!
This year's event raised a record $413,000 to benefit Whatcom Hospice services! Hospice provides life-affirming care for patients and their families facing the crisis of life-limiting illness.
Events such as these would not be possible without support from organizations such as our generous sponsors. With their support and yours, Whatcom Hospice is able to continue the amazing work they do for members of this community.
For this event Apple Yarns organized a community of knitters to knit a blanket in less than a month. The blanket was auctioned at the Light the Night Auction for Whatcom Hospice House and the winning bid was $1,100.00.
A perfect example of our community uniting (and knitting) for a great cause!
