Collection: Favorite Sweater Yarns
There is no better feeling than finishing your first sweater and it fits. We are here to help you in-person and online (360-756-9992 or shop@appleyarns.com)
Steps to creating a first sweater that fits.
- Measure an existing favorite sweater. These are the measurements you will knit or crochet too.
- Do a gauge swatch and wash it using the suggested washing/drying methods.
- Use a proven pattern; below are 2 of our favorites
- Choose the correct yarn; a light color and a wool blend are preferable. Wool has a natural elasticity that makes knitting or crochet easier. Cotton tends to show mistakes more, and it has no natural elasticity.
Knit - Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits is a beautifully written pattern with over 28,000 projects on Ravelry. It comes sized infant to 6XLG, complete with written directions, charts, and video help. It also comes in 3 weights of yarn. We suggest using the worsted-weight yarn in a color you want to knit in. Avoid super dark colors so your stitches are easier to see. Consider knitting a baby size; you'll finish much faster and you will have completed your first sweater. Congratulations 🥰
