February Yarn of the Month

Yarn:  Sirdar Jewelspun

Benefits:  546 yds for $16.99 Ready for a fun fiber that will fool you? Jewelspun gives you the handspun look in practical, easy-care, acrylic fiber that doesn’t feel like it’s acrylic! With 18 different shades, you will find a self-striping colorway that suits any style in this lightweight aran yarn. 200g balls mean you get tons of yardage at a very affordable price, too. Who knew? We do!

Looking for something with a bit more weight to it? Check out Sirdar's Jewelspun Chunky with Wool!

Steps to creating a first sweater that fits.

  • Measure an existing favorite sweater. These are the measurements you will knit or crochet too.
  • Do a gauge swatch and wash it using the suggested washing/drying methods.
  • Use a proven pattern; below are 2 of our favorites.
  • Choose the correct yarn. A light color and a wool blend are preferable. Wool's natural elasticity makes knitting or crocheting easier.  Cotton tends to show mistakes more, and it has no natural elasticity.
  • For Knit, we suggest the Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits in worsted-weight yarns.
  • For Crochet, we suggest the Rochester Pullover by Toni Lipsey in worsted weight yarns.

Second order!

I love the colors. The yarn can vary from thicker to thinner but for the most part it is consistent in size. Not super soft but hoping it will soften after washing. The color changes are really pretty. Currently using it for a cardigan.

love it !

Really love this yarn, would love to indulge in every color they make, love them all. My only complaint is that in some places it gets sooo thin that I'm afraid it may break, but on the other hand in some places it also gets really thick and puffy. So I guess it is just a feature of this yarn.... ?

Deborah, thank you for the 5 star review of Jewelspun. It is a little thick and thin and just one more feature of this popular yarn. Cheers, Andrea
