Listed below are classes that are coming up this fall. We are trying a lot of new things so please give us your input. Details like: supplies needed and homework requirements are at our store. Please feel free to call us at 360-756-9992 or email Andrea andrea@appleyarns.com for more information.
Get Together's
Knit Along's – Join us and other yarn enthusiasts to work on a specific project. New projects come out quarterly. Knit Along's are free with the purchase of yarn and pattern.
- Color on the Side Sweater, 1 – 3pm, Tuesdays
- Sock Club, 12 – 2:00pm, Sundays
Yarn for Good – Drop in on the first and third Sunday and see what a few yarnies can do to make the world a better place. Knitters and crocheters create hats and blankets for those in need. Just bring in your needles or hooks. Right now we are making apple hats for infants in Whatcom County. Each kit is $3.50. When you return the completed hat we will give you a $3.50 gift certificate back to Apple Yarns.
Upcoming events include:
- creating scarves to be auctioned for breast cancer research
- collecting items for local battered women’s shelters
Sit Knit & Crochet – We welcome you to drop in anytime the store is open, to bring in your work in progress and knit or crochet with us, but we have set aside Monday 10 to 12pm and 5 to 8pm, Wednesday 1 to 3pm and Thursday 5 to 8pm as drop in and stitch with us. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome to share ideas, learn and to enjoy being part of a community of yarn lovers (yarnies).
Book Club - Another chance to knit, crochet and maybe even talk about a book. This one is open for interpretation. We will finish Casts Off by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee this month and I look forward to Knit Fix, Problem Solving for Knitters by Lisa Kartus next month.
Apple Basic Classes – The A, B, C’s of knitting and crocheting, 10% OFF CLASS SUPPLIES
Beginning Knitting - Learn the fundamentals of knitting including cast on, the knit and purl stitches and binding off. Your first project is a hat! 3 sessions @ $45.00
Beginning Knitting for Kids or Teens – This class is limited to 4 (kids) or 6 (teens) and includes instruction in cast on, knit and bind-off. NO HOMEWORK! Students must be 8 and need to come in to pick out the yarn before the class so we can give them some one on one. Please call ahead. A fun hat pattern and circular needles are included. 3 sessions @ $45.00
Beginning Crochet for Kids or Teens – This class is limited to 4 (kids) or 6 (teens) and includes the fundamentals of crochet and basic stitches to NO HOMEWORK! Student must be 8 and need to come in to pick out the yarn before the class so we can give them some one on one. Please call ahead so we can set time aside. A fun hat pattern and a crochet hook are included. 3 sessions @ $45.00
Advanced Beginner Knitting – You made your hat you are ready for more and this class in the perfect extension. You will learn pattern reading, basic shaping, increasing and decreasing and basic cables.
Beginning Crochet – Learn the fundamentals of crochet with the basic stitches. Your first project is a hat.
Advanced Beginning Crochet – Extend your knowledge from the basic crochet stitches, pattern reading and techniques.

Fake Isle Hat (beyond basic) – A great fun hat to make made with Noro Kureyon and a solid color, we like Frog Tree Merino. The striped colors of the Kureyon give the appearance of having stranded many more colors than just the two you will actually work with. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class plus the yarn. Homework prior to class please come in one week before the class starts. Class taught by Francine.
Wonderful Easy Cables (beyond basic) – There is no reason to be afraid of cables; they are fun, easy and beautiful. In this class you will learn how to read a cable chart and transfer that knowledge to a beautiful scarf to finish at home. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class. Class taught by Claudia.
Curiously Clever Clogs (intermediate) - These felted knit slippers are a stylish new take on a classic knitting project. Designed to be worn daily and feature a 2 layer cushy sole. Knit in one piece with a “attach as you go” method, they require just one T-shaped seam each. 2, 2 hour classes, plus pattern and yarn. $35.00 for the classes. Class taught by Claudia
Felted Flower Crochet Clogs (intermediate) – A fast and fun way to create a must have, warm slippers. Crochet felts up thick and the sculptural floral motif of the slippers can be worked as you go. 2, 2 hour classes, plus pattern and yarn. $35.00 for the classes. Class taught by Claudia
Lace, Lace, Lace (beyond basic) – Gain confidence in lace knitting while learning to read and to knit 3 different lace patterns. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class, patterns included. Class taught by Claudia.
8 Hour Baby Blanket (beyond basic) – A wonderful, washable baby blanket, 28 x 32” done in your choice of colors. This baby blanket is best done in Encore. Homework prior to class please come in one week before the class starts. One 2 hour class, $20.00 for the class. Class taught by Francine.
Fun Felted Animals (beyond basic) – Hedgehog, flamingos and penguins OH MY…You choose the animal and we will provide the instruction. A great Christmas gift for all. 2, 2 hour classes, plus pattern and yarn. $35.00 for the classes.
Private Parties – Girls, boys birthday parties or a fun night out we offer knitting and crocheting parties for all occasions. Bring in your own refreshments and we will provide instruction and a comfortable place to learn or advance your knitting and crochet skills. Please call for pricing.
Double Pointed Needles and Socks all in one class – This is a 3 session class. In the first 1 ½ hour session, you will learn how to use double pointed needles, knit in the round and knit the cuff and leg of a sock. By the end of class you will put in the heal and toe. You will also learn how to take some easy foot measurements and knit that sock to fit you or a loved one. 3, 1 1/2 hour classes, pattern included. $45.00 for the classes.
Fits Like A Glove – In this 2 session class, 1 ½ hours each, you will learn how to knit a glove to fit your hand. Pattern is adaptable for the popular fingerless gloves. Discover how easy and quick gloves are to make. 2, 1 1/2 hour classes, $35.00 for the classes.
Fabulous Felted Christmas Stocking – Anything is possible with this stocking, the colors textures and embellishments make this a holiday season favorite. Start now and have enough time to make one for the whole family. 2, 2 hour classes, pattern included. $35.00 for the classes
Wonderful Wine…Bottle Holder – This beautiful and practical felted project is a favorite for gift giving. In this 2 session class you will learn how to needle felt as well get some great tips for machine felting. 2, 1 ½ hour classes, pattern included. $35.00 for the classes.
Wine Bottle Holder Embellishment – Here’s your chance to learn needle felting, beading and other great fun tips for carrying your project to the next level. One, 1 ½ hour class, bring a completed wine bottle holder. $20.00
Easy Lace Shawl – It is your choice…a large lace shawl, a sensational scarf or how about a kerchief. This is a great pattern for the beginner lace knitter. This two part class will cover the basics of lace and you will meet at a later date for “how to” blocking, essential to a great lace project. 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes.
Fair Isle Hat – A great beginner Fair Isle project. This colorful knit hat with crochet trim will become an instant treasure and when done in 1824 Wool it will be washable too! Pattern Included, 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes.
You’re Never to Old to Learn – Beautiful basics for Baby Boomers. This class is designed for you! You will pick your own project from the fabulous book, Never Too Old to Knit by Karin Strom. But the best part of this class will be learning the benefits of knitting. Come to class and we will share more. This special series is 4 classes long with each class lasting up to 2 hours. Magic Socks on the Magic Loop – You have heard about this class now it is time to experience this wonderful method of knitting. You will learn to custom fit a pair of socks, work the heal and the toe for the greatest fit. Pattern included, 3 – 1 ½ hour classes, $45.00 for the series.
Socks, One Pair at the Same Time – It is Magic Loop Time again and this time you are knitting both socks at the same time. The prerequisite for this class is already knowing how to Magic Loop one sock. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class, patterns included.
Fabulous Felted Flowers – A one day class for making great flower embellishments to add to any project. This knit and crochet class is great for all. Bring in your scraps and be prepared to have to have some fun. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class, patterns included.
Crochet Edging – Now is the time to take your crochet or knitting to the next level. Claudia will show and demonstrate to you all fun that crochet has to offer. This is not a beginning crochet class. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class, patterns included.
My First Sweater – Create this wonderful child's sweater on colorful panel at a time. Dee Dee will show you how to create a cabled rib and all the basic components of knitting a sweater. Encore is great for this project. Pattern Included, 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes.
Felt Winter Hat – This fun felted hat is the perfect holiday gift. Man. Women or child everyone will go crazy for this new style hat. Works best in Cascade 220, 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes
Imagination Vest – Just as the title says, use you imagination with color and texture. Dee Dee will guide you in creating this fun and warm cardigan vest. Pattern Included, 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes.
Fingerless Gloves – You have seen them, they are all the rage and sure to be high on everyone’s holiday list. You will learn a cable and the gusset for the thumb. This is a quick project and great for holiday gift giving. Pattern Included, 2, 1 ½ hour classes. $35.00 for both classes
Jester Hat – This fun hat can be seen from the bottom to the top of the ski hill. In it you will learn some fair isle and and other great embellishing techniques. A great hat for all ages. This hat is especially fun when made with friends so that you can share yarns. A great project for scrap yarns. Two to 4 classes depending on skill level. Please call the store for class price.
Socks on Double Pointed Needles – A great skill and a great project taught by a great teacher. Dee Dee will help you make a custom sock to fit your foot as well as teach you a lot of tricks about sock making. Pattern included, 3 – 1 ½ hour classes, $45.00 for the series.
2x2x2 Rib Scarf – Color, Color, Color. This quick project is a great scarf that will help you to perfect your rib stitch (purl and knit). All this while experimenting in color. A great gift for all ages. One 2 hour class, free pattern. $20.00 for the class, patterns included.

Class & Workshop Policy
Classes must be paid for in advance, cash, check or credit card. Fees listed are for the compete class, including all sessions and unless noted do not include materials or patterns. All classes must be cancelled no later than two days before the first class to receive a full refund. Missed classes may be made up at a later session quarterly. If the class is cancelled by the instructor for any reason you will be refunded.
